Cobweb Skipper

Male - May 2024

The Cobweb Skipper (Hesperia metea) is an early spring grass skipper. The ventral side wings show a dark brown base with gold frosting and a beautiful white variable cobweb pattern. Some Sachems (especially females) can look similar but when you see a Cobweb it’s pretty obvious.

Female - May 2024

Females seemed notably larger to me and have a wider abdomen in addition to slightly darker wing details. This species tends to be found in open sandy areas.
