The Dreamy Duskywing (Erynnis icelus) no doubt gets its name from the striking frosted details on the forewings!! This differentiates the species from all other NJ duskywings. Also note the outer portion of the forewing from the dorsal side has a beautiful double zigzag band that almost reminds me of a double-helix. This is the state’s smallest duskywing at approximately 1.2 inches with wings spread, and has only one tiny dot near the top of the forewing where Juvenal’s, Horace’s and Wild indigo have several, and Sleepy Duskywing has none. They can be seen in northern New Jersey from April through June.
