Southern Cloudywing

Female - August 2016

The Southern Cloudywing (Thorybes bathyllus) is a tan spread-wing skipper with white wing-markings and white fringe on the wing-edges. They average about 1.45 inches and can be very similar to the Northern Cloudywing in appearance. I’ve only come across this species twice in all the times I’ve been out in the field.

Female - August 2016

The ventral side of the wings is a beautiful combination of mottled tan and brown with the white details appearing on the underside as well as some lavender flecking near the body.
